Frequently asked questions
What is Aquatic Performance Training?
The APT program is revolutionizing aquatic training with our unique programming, specialized equipment, and life changing results our clients are experiencing. We are offering two different programs at our Monroe location Private Training or Large Group Training.
What is the difference between large group training and personal training?
The one on one program includes a medical history intake, a full body assessment to see your body's strengths and weaknesses, and you will always have a trainer working with you to help you build a customizable program that is completely made for you!
The large group program can be up to 25 people at a time, has a set weekly schedule & times throughout each day where an instructor will lead you through a challenging program. The workouts may include aquatic cycling and aquatic strength training classes that must be reserved in advanced because we use specialized equipment and like having organized programs.
What is the specialized equipment you are using and how is it different than typical pool training?
We use advanced strength equipment in the pool such as aquatic treadmills, aquatic cycling bikes, and drag resistance strength training equipment that has multiple levels of resistance to safely challenge our clients in their own way. Typical pool standards use noodles, foam dumbbells, and kick boards which is a very ineffective means of training. Our equipment is proven to deliver results and our clients love the difference they feel compared to traditional pool equipment.
Do both programs use the same equipment?
Yes, if you do personal training or group training you will be using aquatic cycling bikes and specialized strength training equipment. The personal training program uses aquatic treadmills as well that the class program does not offer.
How do I know which program is for me?
As health professionals we set up a free orientation time for you to come in and discuss your goals and medical history. We will point you in the direction we know you will have the best results with. If you have injuries/reoccurring injuries, or joint replacements that are brand new or that are not working well, such as stiffness or pain, then we would recommend you to start the personal training program so you can get the maximum attention you need.
Does insurance cover any of these programs?
Our program is an exercise and post physical therapy program. If you utilize an HSA or FSA account then a letter of medical necessity is required to use our program if it is going to be covered. We are a group of amazing trainers and fantastic group instructors. We are not physical therapists so insurance does not cover our programs.
Do you focus your program in sessions or a certain time frame?
Our program is focused on consistency and a healthy lifestyle change. We focus on long term results and not a quick fix that will not help you with your long term goals. Our clients focus on doing 3 months, 6 months or 1 year programs to keep their goals in mind and stay as consistent as possible.
What happens if I am away or something medically comes up during my time at Aquatic Performance Training?
We want you to be as consistent as possible with your training but understand that accidents occur and prescheduled vacations happen before you join our program. If it is a medical issue that arises please send a doctors note so we can freeze your program until the doctor clears you to return. All of our programs have a 4 week extension period attached to them but if it is something that is medical that needs a longer duration then we will extend with the proper doctors note.
What kind of results can I expect from this program?
Your results are completely based on how often you are showing up to our program and how healthy you are eating before and afterwards. We have clients that are losing inches, dropping weight, gaining strength, looking more toned, and building a better sense of overall health. We offer a 300% guarantee- if you show up 100% of the time, give 100% effort, and stay committed 100% percent of the time, you will see dramatic results.
What is the best clothing to wear to a class or personal training session?
We want you to feel as comfortable as possible and wearing a fitted one piece bathing suit or a two piece bathing suit that is supportive and appropriate is ideal. You can wear leggings, cycling shorts with a tank top, but make sure it is supportive. If your bathing suit is too loose or has extra material hanging off like a dress we would NOT recommend you wearing this as it will most likely interfere with your movements.
Do I need to have aquatic shoes on while I workout?
Yes, for any cycle class you need to have aquatic shoe wear on. If you are doing a personal training program or strength class wearing shoes is optional, although we do recommend wearing them.
What is the temperature of your pools?
At both of our locations the pool is between 85-87 degrees. This temperature makes it comfortable for you to enter the pool and gives you a great environment for a very effective workout.
Should I drink water before, during, and after the class or personal training session?
Yes, hydration is very important. Having somewhere between 64-72 oz before, during, and after class is appropriate. In class you may feel like you are not sweating as much as a typical land session. This is due to the properties of water called heat dissipation that helps remove heat from your body. Believe us, you will be sweating and feeling like you are having a fantastic workout!
Do I need to know how to swim for your programs?
You do not need to know how to swim because everything we do is done with you standing in the water. There are times where you are floating on your stomach but you are holding on to something at all times in these instances. We never have you swim in our programs.
